Ferry between Athens & Aegina
Ferry between Athens & Aegina
The ferry is the most popular way to travel between Athens and Aegina. With this ticket, you can board the ferry directly to your destination, without having to queue at the port ticket offices.
During the booking process, you'll have to choose between two options: a one-way journey from Athens or a return journey from Aegina, as well as your preferred departure time. If you are departing from Athens, the port of departure is Piraeus and your arrival will be at the Aegina terminal. If you book the return journey from Aegina, the process will be the other way around, departing from Aegina and disembarking in Piraeus.
The journey time between Athens and Aegina by ferry is estimated at 1 hour and 25 minutes.
What to See in Aegina?
In Aegina, very close to the harbour, you'll find the chapel of St. Nicholas, which is striking for its small size and its white and blue architecture. Walking through the picturesque streets of the village, you'll come across the Markellos Tower, which served as a state building between 1826 and 1827.
You can also take advantage of your stay in Aegina to visit the temple of Afaya, which dates back to between 500 and 490 BC, or the temple of Apollo. The latter is located on a hill called "Kolona", which means column in Greek. Experts believe that it had 11 columns on the sides and 6 columns at the ends. Moreover, being on an elevated site, you'll be able to enjoy beautiful panoramic views of the Aegean Sea.
What to Do in Athens?
For anyone visiting Athens, a visit to the Acropolis, the great symbol of Classical Greece, is a must. On your tour of this famous complex you will see the Parthenon, the Erechtheion and its caryatids, as well as the Theatre of Dionysus, which dates back to the 5th century BC.
However, we also advise you to wander around Plaka, known as the "neighbourhood of the gods". Its narrow cobbled streets, colourful houses and traditional taverns will take you straight back to another era. Fun fact: there are remains of ancient Athens underneath the streets of this neighbourhood.
