Tourist Bus to Cape Sounion
On the tourist bus to Cape Sounion you'll travel to one of the most important places of Greek mythology and you'll have an audio guide in English.
Description
At the appointed time we'll meet up at the Old Parliament Building in Athens and head to Cape Sounion. During the trip, you'll listen to an audio guide with lots of interesting facts about this emblematic location in the Attica region.
Cape Sounion is one of the most important places in Greek culture. According to mythology, this was the exact spot where Aegeus committed suicide thinking that his son Theseus had died. In fact, from this legend comes the name of the Aegean Sea.
Once there, you can visit the famous Temple of Poseidon at your own pace, a majestic construction of Classical Antiquity from the 5th century B.C. You'll be impressed by its columns that are over 6 meters tall (20 feet)! Did you know that these columns actually served to counteract the erosion of the air? And if you look closely, you'll be able to see an engraving of Lord Byron the famous English poet.
As the evening begins to fall, we'll sit on Cape Sunion to enjoy one of the most beautiful sunsets in Greece.
Finally, we'll return to the bus and return to Athens. Arrival at the meeting point is scheduled 4 hours after departure.
